Surface cleaning, but litter remains
Despite the efforts of volunteers and environmental teams, beaches remain polluted. Cleaning is carried out twice a day in various regions (Famagusta, Iskele, Yeniboğaziçi, Tatlısu), but the visual and ecological situation has not improved significantly.
Black flag on Iskele beach
Activists raised a black flag in Iskele in protest, claiming that recent reports on water purity are inaccurate because sewage is still flowing into the sea.
Opening of public beaches in Famagusta
Six municipal public beaches in Famagusta will be open from May 15. These include Glapsides Beach, Palm Beach, Deryneia Beach, Karakol Beach, and two beaches in the closed area of Varosha.
New café on Varosha beach
There are plans to open a café in the closed area of Varosha. The beaches from Klapsides to Varosha, including some in military zones, are now open to the public. Local authorities describe them as "the most beautiful beaches in the country."
